A Force for Good

  • Brewing on 100% Renewable Electricity

Wasted Degrees beer is brewed on electricity generated from renewable sources, predominantly wind and hydro.

Great beer, sustainable choices and putting a smile on people’s faces is important to us. You’ll find more of our sustainability choices & actions on this page.

  • Goodbye to Plastic Packaging

We estimate that 99% of our packaging is either recycled or recyclable.

As a business that relies on cardboard to send and receive shipments, we’ve invested in machinery to help us re-use and recycle this material to reduce waste, limit our carbon footprint and near-totally remove plastic from our packaging. We also use paper based packing tape and the labels on our cans are made from Forest Film™, a material that’s made from 100% wood-based raw materials, a renewable alternative to plastic that has a 45% lower carbon footprint.

  • Ask For Angela

We care about people, that's why we are doing things to make everyone feel welcome and supported at our brewery, whilst also helping those in need.

Whilst our business philosophy has long-term benefits to society and the environment, we also want to set a strong example of how business should care about doing right by people in the here & now, too.

‘Ask for Angela’: no one deserves to feel unsafe on a night out. We support this wonderful campaign and our staff are trained to provide immediate support and a safe space for anyone who asks for Angela.

  • Creating Opportunities to Reduce Waste

Now in its fourth vintage year, the annual Wasted Degrees cider has become a much loved local community collaboration. Throughout harvest season (late-September to October) the brewery becomes a local hub for collecting apples. In 2019 we realised that, like so many parts of the country, our local area had a wealth of apple trees… but a great deal of the fruit was going to waste. We put those apples to use, creating an ultra-local cider and feeding local livestock with the remaining pulp. In exchange for donating apples, people are offered beer upfront or cider when its ready.

Together, we’ve saved around 9 tonnes of apples so far! Follow us on the socials, you won’t want to miss out!

2022 Vintage: all of the apples are now pulped & pressed and we expect the cider to be ready in early-2023.

  • Fighting Period Poverty

In early-2022 we launched our partnership with Hey Girls, the award-winning ‘buy one, donate one’ social enterprise that fights period poverty. Whenever you visit the brewery or taproom, you’ll be able to access environmentally-friendly period products completely free of charge.

For every product that Wasted Degrees purchases, a whole box of products is donated to someone in need. Social and ethical choices are at the heart of everything we do.

  • Doing What's Right

‘Invisible Pizza’: you can now ‘order’ an ‘invisible pizza’ at our Taproom, making it easy for you to donate £5 to charities that help those in need.

Our invisible pizza initiative is in support of the Perth & Kinross Food Bank and the British Red Cross. Your donation could save lives at home and abroad.

In memory of Jen and Jack. From the horrors of war to a long & happy life together. A Red Cross Nurse and a Soldier of the 51st Highland Division, our Granny and Grandad.

  • Forest Film™ Labels

Notice anything about our label designs? Light beers with white labels, dark beers with black labels. Simple, purposeful and clean. We also now print our labels on Forest Film™, a material that’s made from 100% wood-based raw materials, a renewable alternative to plastic that has a 45% lower carbon footprint than the polypropylene labels we used to use.
